Around the world

When I'm abroad, I have two obsessions. Parks and museums. In the latter, I take notes that I digitalize after, when I have the time and motivation. Here are some of these files, because art's worth sharing!

You'll see that I have a "system" to quantify my appreciation of an artwork. If you look at the picture's titles, you'll sometimes see exclamation points. The more... The better!

Montreal's MBA

I nearly got lost in this museum. I failed to understand its layout: rooms everywhere, an underground path, junctions all around. But when I finally understood the logic, I discovered very interesting Canadian artists.

If I needed to keep only one art piece in mind, it'd be Rose Fortin's portrait by Jori Smith. It was astonishing in its presence. But, it's in no way inferior to the Jean-Paul Riopelle’s huge painting or Simon Hantaï work. The small artwork by Henri Le Sidaner fascinated me as well — and I can assure you that the photograph doesn’t do it justice.

Toronto's AGO

A great visit. And the location is beautiful. I was particularly struck by the superb Louis Valtat, the work of Florence Carlyle, and the paintings of Laura Muntz Lyall. I also discovered Kazuo Nakamura's work. He seems to be a total number-nerd!

Vancouver's VAG

When I went to the Vancouver Art Gallery, it showed an exhibition about Monochrome painting, ordered by colour. It was a bit short but I saw really interesting artworks.

Difficult not to melt in front of the powerful red of Guido Molinari. But, Guy Pellerin's work struck me the most. A simple concept: to paint, day after day, the colour of the sky.
